William James LALOR

William James Lalor died on 31 December 1946 in Canberra, ACT aged 80 years & 7 months.

William James Lalor was born on the 1^st of June 1866 “one mile below the township of Healesville on the Eltham road to Melbourne”. His father Patrick was 28 and mother Harriet was 30 years old. William’s older brother John was 4 and his sister Mary Anne was 2 years and six months. His other brother Michael (Mick) was born in 1868 and Matilda (Tilly) was born in 1871.

He married Annie Matilda Madden at Gruyere on the 20^th of February 1895. Annie was 26 and was born in Gruyere on the 4^th of April 1868 to John James Madden and Mary Murphy. Michael Lalor and Mary Ellen Madden (Annie’s sister) were witnesses.

Eileen Hart nee Lalor remembered that they would call in at the Murphys at Coldstream after mass on a Sunday. The relationship with the Murphys and Maddens was close and two Lalor brothers, William and Mick  had married cousins Annie Madden and Eliza Ostrom. (Mary Madden nee  Murphy – Annie’s  mother and Eliza Ostrom nee Murphy were sisters)

Annie died suddenly at Gruyere at the age of 56 on the 1^st of August 1924. Bill survived her by twenty two years and spent some of his time in Canberra –  his sons, Alf, Perce and Cav took it in turns for him to stay with them and their families and William died in Canberra on the 31^st of December 1946. He was brought home to be buried at Healesville with Annie and his father Patrick.
