Leo Adrian Lalor (Adrian) was born at Healesville, Victoria on 5th October, 1937. He was educated at St Brigid’s Catholic School, Healesville up to Grade 8 attaining Merit Certificate. Adrian commenced with the Post Master General’s (PMG) Department at Healesville in 1952 as a Junior Postal Officer.This entailed the delivery of mail, telegrams and the operation of the telephone exchange at night. That led to Adrian being selected to attend and complete the Telegraphist’s Course in Melbourne. He then worked in the Central Telegraph Office in the Elizabeth Street (GPO) Post Office in Melbourne.
In late 1956 Adrian successfully completed the entrance examination for the Victoria Police Force. He then resigned from the PMG and returned to Healesville to work at Pomeroy’s Timber Mill until commencement of training at the Police Depot in St Kilda Road, Melbourne on 5th April 1957.
After completing the training period Adrian served at Port Melbourne; Town Hall Traffic Division; Mornington; Wireless Patrol; Criminal Investigation Branch; Richmond; South Melbourne and Lakes Entrance retiring as Officer in Charge at Lakes Entrance in 1997.
Adrian undertook National Service Training at Puckapunyal Victoria in 1958, and completed the training with 5 Corps Engineer Regiment RAE. He was discharged from National Service obligation in June 1960.
Adrian was awarded the Australian Police Medal in Queen’s Birthday Honour List in 1993.
He was also a member of the Executive of the Victoria Police Association from 1977 until 1989. During that time he was President of that organization 1981 – 1983. Adrian was also President of the Police Federation of Australia and New Zealand and was made a Life Member of the Victoria Police Association.
Adrian also served as a Councillor on the (then) Shire of Tambo 1990 – 1994.
Born in Healesville, Victoria on 5th October, 1937 and died on Monday 12th February 2007. (see funeral pics)(see tribute)
